Otaru kiriko - Miyabi (雅)
This is Otaru faceting, Miyabi(雅), with its dynamic, streamlined cut. Faceting is a glass craft in which patterns are carved out of glass or other surfaces covered with colored glass by cutting them with a diamond blade. In Japan, Edo faceting and Satsuma faceting are representative of this type of glasswork, which is generally transparent glass covered with colored glass.

Unlike Edo faceting, Otaru faceting carves patterns by covering colored glass with colored glass. This allows for a variety of color combinations to be enjoyed, and the highly original cuts create new glass that has never been seen before. As a new attempt, the company is also pursuing the possibility of faceting on hard glass and crystal glass to develop unique products that suit the climate of Otaru.
Hard glass is harder than other types of glass and more resistant to heat. However, hard glass faceting is extremely difficult, and there are very few hard glass faceted products on the market. However, Fukagawa Glass Works, an Otaru faceting company, facets heat-resistant hard glass in a variety of colors just like other glass materials.
Although the number of factories producing crystal glass in Japan is decreasing year by year, we insist on domestic production. We are particular about color combinations and continue to pursue new possibilities of glass that have never been seen before.
