Matsuo Michiyo

Born in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture. As the granddaughter of Nakasato Jintaro, a ceramic artist of Mikawachi-yaki (a designated intangible cultural asset holder in Sasebo City), she grew up surrounded by the world of ceramics.

1995: Fascinated by the ceramics of Hasami, the town where she was born and raised, she decided to pursue a career in pottery. She was mentored by Heizo Nakamura, a master potter designated as an intangible cultural asset in Nagasaki Prefecture, learning the art of wheel throwing.

1997: Established her own studio, "Kobo Kaze," in Hasami. She pursued the beauty of Hasami ware’s white porcelain and continued to create works while dedicating herself to the preservation of traditional techniques and contributing to the local community.

2002: Studied pottery under the guidance of the 13th generation Tarozaemon Nakasato, a member of the Japan Art Academy, in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. She continued to energetically create and present her works as a ceramic artist. Her pieces were highly praised at domestic exhibitions, and she received numerous awards.

2016: Passed away. The works featured on this shop are all her posthumous creations. Please enjoy the beauty of the pieces crafted by her hands and her deep affection for Hasami ware.
